Angel Hair Cypress Tree

Fine, airy foliage for year-round texture

Angel Hair Cypress Tree features exceptionally fine, threadlike foliage that brings a light, airy texture to the garden. Its slower growth and thinner foliage distinguish it from ‘Filifera’, making it a good choice for adding evergreen structure without a heavy or bulky appearance.

This unique sport was discovered in southern New York by Mike and Ken Yeager of Hickory Hollow Nursery. Use it as a graceful specimen, in a mixed shrub border, or alongside plants with broader leaves for an appealing contrast in texture.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a site with full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Dig a hole as deep as the root ball and about twice as wide, keeping the top of the root ball level with the surrounding soil. Mulch lightly without covering the base.

2. Watering: Water deeply after planting and regularly during the first growing season. Once established, water during extended dry periods, keeping the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged.

3. Pruning: Little pruning is needed. Remove damaged or wayward growth in late winter or early spring, and trim lightly to maintain its natural form. Avoid cutting into old, bare wood, which may not produce new growth.

4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer formulated for evergreen shrubs in early spring if growth is weak or the soil is poor. Avoid overfertilizing, as steady, compact growth best preserves its delicate form.
