Golden Glow Korean Fir Tree
Beskrivning
Golden winter color and compact texture
Especially in winter, this striking Korean fir lives up to its name. Its many shoots carry short, broad, light-yellow needles with white undersides, creating bright color and rich texture when much of the garden is quiet. Purple-cast buds add another decorative touch in late winter.
Selected in Holland, this compact, mid-sized conifer develops an irregular, spreading form that works well as a specimen or evergreen accent. Plant it where its winter color can be enjoyed, in moist, well-drained soil with protection from scorching sun in hot climates.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Choose a site with moist, well-drained soil and full sun to light shade. In hot areas, provide afternoon shade or protection from intense sun. Set the root ball level with the surrounding soil and mulch lightly, keeping mulch away from the trunk.
2. Watering: Water deeply after planting and regularly during the first growing season. Keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged. Once established, water during extended dry periods, especially in warm weather.
3. Pruning: Little pruning is needed. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches in late winter or early spring, while preserving its naturally irregular, spreading shape. Avoid cutting deeply into old, bare wood.
4. Fertilizing: Apply a slow-release fertilizer formulated for evergreens or acid-loving plants in early spring. Follow label directions and avoid overfertilizing, which can encourage weak growth or dull the needle color.
