Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Choose a location that receives full sun to partial shade and has well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice as wide and the same depth as the root ball, and position the tree in the center. Backfill with soil and water thoroughly to eliminate air pockets. Spread a three-inch layer of mulch three feet around the tree, pulling it back 3-6” from the trunk.

2. Watering: Ensure consistent moisture, especially during the first growing season. Water deeply twice a week, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Once established, water deeply during times of dry, hot weather.

3. Pruning: Prune your Highland Park® Maple in late winter or early spring while it's still dormant. Remove any dead or damaged branches. Follow guidelines for pruning young shade trees to develop good structure and gradually remove lower branches as needed for clearance under the canopy.

4. Fertilizing: Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to encourage healthy growth.
