Iseli® Roundabout Spruce Shrub

A naturally rounded evergreen that stays compact

Discovered at Iseli Nursery as a witch’s broom on Iseli® Roundabout Spruce Shrub is a compact, viridian orb with finely scaled bluish-green needles. Its slow growth and naturally symmetrical form give it the polished look of a topiary without regular shearing.

This exceptionally hardy dwarf spruce brings year-round structure to small landscapes, foundation beds, rock gardens, and containers. Plant it in full sun and well-drained soil where its tidy shape can stand out, either as a specimen or as part of a mixed evergreen planting.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a full-sun site with well-drained soil. Dig a hole as deep as the root ball and about twice as wide, then plant with the root flare at soil level. Backfill, water thoroughly, and add mulch without piling it against the stem.

2. Watering: Water deeply and regularly during the first growing season, allowing the upper soil to dry slightly between waterings. Once established, provide supplemental water during prolonged heat or drought. Avoid consistently wet or waterlogged soil.

3. Pruning: Little to no pruning is needed to maintain its rounded form. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing growth as needed, preferably in late winter or early spring. Avoid cutting back into old, needleless wood.

4. Fertilizing: Apply a slow-release fertilizer formulated for evergreens in early spring if growth is weak or soil is poor. Established plants in healthy soil generally need little supplemental feeding.
