Use this easy-care evergreen to shape formal accents, define garden borders, or add structure to containers on patios and terraces. It responds well to trimming and maintains its refined appearance with minimal effort.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Plant with the top of the root ball level with the surrounding soil, then water thoroughly. For containers, use a pot with drainage holes and a quality acidic planting mix.

2. Watering: Water regularly during the first growing season to establish strong roots. Keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged. Once established, water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry; container-grown plants may need more frequent attention.

3. Pruning: Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to refine its shape, or trim as needed during the growing season. Avoid removing too much growth at once. Its naturally compact habit requires little pruning unless a formal shape is desired.

4. Fertilizing: Apply a slow-release fertilizer formulated for acid-loving evergreens in early spring, following label directions. Avoid overfertilizing, which can encourage loose growth and reduce the plant’s naturally dense form.
