A tougher upright evergreen for small spaces

More durable, adaptable, and dense than the popular ‘Compressa,’ this improved selection features similarly compact, bluish-green foliage and a tidy upright habit. Its broader pyramidal form gives it a substantial look while still fitting comfortably into smaller landscapes.

Better tolerance of wind, cold, and reflected sun makes it a dependable vertical accent for exposed sites. Plant it in containers, along an entryway, or among mixed shrubs to add year-round structure to landscapes ranging from elegant to casual.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a location in full sun with well-drained soil. Dig a hole as deep as the root ball and about twice as wide, then plant with the top of the root ball level with the surrounding soil.

2. Watering: Water deeply after planting and regularly during the first growing season while roots establish. Once established, it tolerates dry conditions, but occasional deep watering is helpful during prolonged heat or drought. Avoid consistently wet soil.

3. Pruning: Little pruning is needed. Remove damaged or wayward growth in late winter or early spring, and lightly trim new growth to maintain its shape. Avoid cutting back into old, bare wood.

4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release evergreen fertilizer in early spring if growth is weak or soil is poor. Established plants in healthy soil generally need little supplemental feeding.
