Striking blue foliage for dry landscapes

This distinctive evergreen brings strong color and structure to the landscape with rigid, blue-gray leaves arranged in a dense, rounded form. Its architectural shape makes an attractive focal point in sunny beds, gravel gardens, and other areas where bold texture is welcome.

Cold hardy down to 10°F and highly drought tolerant once established, it is ideal for xeriscapes and waterwise gardens. It also performs well in large containers with excellent drainage. Place it away from walkways and play areas, as the pointed leaves can be sharp.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a full-sun location with very well-draining soil. Set the root ball level with the surrounding ground and avoid burying the crown. For containers, use a fast-draining potting mix and a pot with ample drainage holes.

2. Watering: Water deeply after planting, then allow the soil to dry before watering again. Provide occasional water during the first growing season to encourage root development. Once established, water sparingly and avoid consistently wet soil.

3. Pruning: Remove dead, damaged, or declining outer leaves as needed. Use clean tools and wear sturdy gloves and eye protection when working around the sharp foliage. Avoid cutting into the central growing point.

4. Fertilizing: Fertilizer is rarely necessary in the landscape. If growth appears weak, apply a light dose of balanced, slow-release fertilizer in spring. Avoid overfertilizing, which can lead to soft growth.
