Shimpaku Juniper Tree
Beskrivning
Sculptural form with peeling bark
This versatile evergreen develops a vase-shaped habit with upright, fountain-like branches covered in robust, green, awl-shaped foliage. Its naturally irregular form and exposed, peeling bark create character and visual interest throughout the year.
A favorite among bonsai enthusiasts, it responds well to careful shaping and also brings structure to container arrangements, rock gardens, and garden beds. Its compact, textured growth makes it especially useful where a distinctive evergreen accent is needed.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a location in full sun with well-draining soil and good air circulation. When growing in a container, use a pot with drainage holes and a fast-draining potting mix.
2. Watering: Water deeply when the upper inch of soil begins to dry. Container-grown plants may need more frequent watering, especially during warm weather, but the roots should never remain soggy.
3. Pruning: Prune lightly in spring through midsummer to maintain the desired shape and remove dead or crowded growth. Pinch or trim vigorous new shoots selectively, keeping some green foliage on each branch.
4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release evergreen fertilizer in spring according to label directions. Container and bonsai specimens may benefit from light, regular feeding during active growth; avoid fertilizing during winter dormancy.
