Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. If you’re planting a tree form, remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Select a location with full sun to partial shade, ensuring the soil is well-draining to keep your plant happy.

2. Watering: Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy, especially during the warmer months. Reduce watering during the cooler months as growth slows.

3. Pruning: Prune back any dead or leggy growth in early spring to encourage fuller growth and maintain a tidy shape. Regularly removing spent flowers will promote more blooms.

4. Fertilizing: Feed your Mandevilla with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season to encourage vibrant blooms and healthy foliage.

5. Winterizing: In zones 3-9, bring mandevillas indoors by a sunny window once temperatures reach the mid 50s. Prune long stems to create a shorter, manageable plant. Keep temperatures at 60 F or above indoors, reduce watering, and stop fertilizing. Alternately, mandevillas can be stored outdoors in a dark, cool spot that stays above 50 F. To prepare plant for outdoor storage, cut stems down to 12” and cluster with other plants to improve insulation. Water sparingly every few weeks to prevent soil from completely drying out but be careful of root rot.
